Episode 03: Gym Shoes
Ebay!
Ebay has been a hit or miss for me for years. Today, I have it down to a science where I am able to buy the best shoes for me at a price I am willing to purchase them at.
Step 1: Create an Ebay account
Step 2: Search for the shoes you are looking for using different search terms in the search bar. (I.E. Men’s size 19 shoe. Men’s size 18 dress shoe. Men’s casual shoe size 20.) Feel free to use quotations around “size 19” to try and weed out the shoes who use that number in their marketing, but be careful because this could remove possible options as well.
Step 3: If you find a pair of shoes you love, and if no one else is “watching” them, click “watch this item.” Usually within a week, the seller will offer some sort of discount towards you to buy it. This is where I get a little greedy. I know someone somewhere purchased the shoes at a Nordstrom’s Rack for $15 trying to flip them online. Usually, you can see how long the item has been listed. If it has been listed for over a month, I usually respond with a lowball offer. These offers can go back and forth for a while, but because we are usually the only ones making a move on these shoes, the seller will let them go at a price that is fair to all parties. On average, the shoes I purchase from Ebay are $35 before shipping.
Step 4: If you have made an offer on the shoes, and the offer has been accepted, PAY THE SELLER. No need to go back in forth on negotiating only to not pay the seller right away. If you cannot afford the offer you placed, then you should never have placed it. Plus, the sooner the seller receives payment, the sooner they will ship the shoes to rid themselves of all the back and forth on them.
Step 5: When the shoes come in, make sure they 100% match what the seller listed them for. Then leave a fair review for the seller. Many of the companies who make larger shoes do not know exactly where to send them, so when someone finds them, buys them, and uploads them, make them feel good for giving you the opportunity to purchase them.
Step 6: Enjoy the shoes (or whatever item you found on Ebay that fits)!
Podcast of some fun Ebay stories will be uploaded eventually. Thank you for your patience.
